Agency

The word Agency comes from the Latin verb agere, which means to operate, act, drive, represent or lead. An agent acts as an intermediary for a particular individual, group or institution, representing their interests and as such their actions are often politically motivated. To claim agency means to be aware of one’s role as a representative of a group and to operate in an external manner. It also results in a shift from being an observer to having an active participatory role and thus adopting positions.
